‘निर्भया’ सायकल बँक

         पैसा आणि बँक या दोन शब्दांचे एक नाते असते. ‘भगीरथ’ने अशा प्रकारची सायकल बँक केली आहे. ग्रामीण भागातील मुलींना शाळेत जाण्यासाठी दूरवरून चालत यावे लागते. या प्रश्नाला हे उत्तर आहे. एकूण १० सायकल शाळेच्या ताब्यात दिल्या जातात. ज्या मुलींना गरज आहे, त्या मुलींना सायकल वापरण्यासाठी दिली जाते. सायकलच्या देखभाल दुरुस्तीसाठी नाममात्र फी शाळा घेते. त्यामुळे वर्षातून एकदा सायकल दुरुस्तीसाठी देणगीदाराकडे पुन्हा हात पसरावे लागत नाहीत. या उपक्रमामुळे शाळेत जाण्या-येण्याचा वेळ वाचतो. ग्रामीण भागातील मुलींना सायकलचं खूप अप्रूप आहे.

      नवी कोरी सायकल घेऊन शाळेत जायचं ही मुलींसाठी अभिमानाची गोष्ट असते. ‘चाकोरी’ या लघुपटामध्ये अशाच सायकलची कथा आहे. सायकल मुलींना आत्मनिर्भर, स्वयंपूर्ण बनविते. स्त्री-पुरुष समानतेच्या व्याख्यानापेक्षा सायकल काहीच न बोलता खूप काही सांगून जाते. सामाजिक बदलामध्ये या सायकल बँकेने गती दिली. गतिमान होण्याचा, पुढे जाण्याचा एक मोठा आत्मविश्वास शाळेतील मुलींना या उपक्रमामुळे मिळाला आहे.

'Nirbhaya' Bicycle Bank

         The words "Bank" and "Money" have a special relationship. Bhagirath Gramvikas Pratishthan has established a bicycle bank. The bank is a solution for the girls who have to walk miles to reach the school. Bhagirath gives school 10 bicycles. The school provides these bicycles to the girls who need them. The school charges nominal fees annually for the maintenance and repair of the bicycles. This has freed the girls from asking the donors for maintenance. It saves the time taken to reach school. For many a girls in the rural area, a bicycle is a thing of novelty.

         It is a thing of great pride and joy for these girls to bring their brand new bicycles to school. A short film titled Chakori depicts a similar story. A bicycle makes a woman self reliant. A bicycle conveys more regarding gender equality than a lecture on the same can do. This Bicycle bank has sped up social change. This initiative has given a confidence to the girls to keep moving ahead and leading from the front.
